This was my second photo workshop with Lisa Langell, and once again I cannot think of anything which could have been done to improve my experience, except I wish it had lasted longer!! Lisa’s meticulous planning and extensive knowledge of both the technical elements of flash photography and wildlife behavior and her ability to convey this information to participants made this not only a photo op, but a real learning experience. She provided many different backgrounds and flowers and rotated participants through each station which allowed every photographer an equal opportunity to design and capture amazing and unique images. Lisa, Kim and Dan constantly circulated between stations to offer individual assistance, guidance and answer questions. Their kindness and caring made for a fun and enjoyable experience.

This was really an awesome trip. I have enough hummingbird photos for a life time. Getting to also photograph bats was a huge bonus. Lisa's trips are always well planned and this one is no exception. I would highly recommend this workshop to everyone and this is coming from someone who is not usually a bird photographer.

The workshop was awesome. Lisa, Kim and Dan are outstanding photographers who made sure that you obtained great photos. Can not say enough positive things about Lisa. She is an excellent instructor, communicator, and creative artist. She made learning high-key and low-key photography easy. There were large assortments of flowers and back drops so my compositions were limitless. Really like that I had my own station which maximize my photography shooting time. The accommodations were ok. Found several scorpions in my room, not fun. Plus the check-in staff was very curt. I would not recommend Santa Rita Lodge unless you are taking this photo workshop. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of the accommodations.

Carol, thank you so much for your thoughtful review and for joining us at the hummingbird workshop! Kim, Dan, and I truly enjoyed working with you and are delighted to hear how much you gained from the photography sessions, stations, and instruction. It means a great deal to us that you had a creative and rewarding experience. We are, however, very surprised and quite sorry to learn just now, through your review, about the scorpions you encountered at the lodge. In all of our 10+ years hosting dozens of workshops there, this has never been reported by any guest. While it is true that the lodge sits in the heart of the Coronado National Forest and is surrounded by nature, which can increase the likelihood that occasional insects find their way indoors, the cabins are always carefully cleaned between guests and well-maintained. Following your review, we reached out to the lodge immediately. The owner and staff were as surprised as we were to hear this news as scorpions are not commonly sighted at the lodge. Additionally, no staff members recalled being contacted about this issue during your stay. Had it been reported to either the lodge or to us during the workshop, it would have been addressed right away. We always want our guests to have an outstanding experience—both with the photography and the accommodations. Should you join us again on a future event, please bring any concerns to us or the lodge staff right away so we can ensure everything meets your expectations. We’re grateful you were with us and are thrilled that the workshop itself was a highlight. Thank you again for sharing your experience. --Lisa Langell & the Magic of Hummingbirds Team

Workshop provided excellent, comfortable venue for photographing beautiful hummingbirds & (as a bonus) bats at night. Lisa, along with her talented sidekicks Kim & Dan, provided each participant with individual guidance . They empowered every person to achieve autonomy and confidence in their camera and creative set-ups. Plus it was great fun!!
